The 8th Symphony is a fine blend of classical simplicity and Beethoven's innate progressive power. Beethoven always made sure that one Symphony was different from the other. In other words, each of his Symphonies has a different taste and a different meaning. Also, each movement within one Symphony always has its own unique pattern, yet all the movements within a given work are progressively united. Symphony No. 8 in F Major (Opus 93) was started in the summer of 1812, immediately after the completion of the Seventh Symphony. The work took Beethoven o...

Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13 - Pathétique 1: Grave (Slowly, with solemnity) -- Allegro di molto e con brio (Quickly, with much vigour) 2: Adagio cantabile (Slowly, in a singing style) (07:03) 3: Rondo: Allegro (Quickly) (12:05) Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13, commonly known as Sonata Pathétique, was written in 1798 when the composer was 27 years old, and was published in 1799. Beethoven dedicated the work to his friend Prince Karl von Lichnowsky. Although commonly thought to be one of the few works to be named by the composer himself, it was actually named Grande sonate pathétique (to Beethoven's liking) by the publisher, who was impressed by the sonata's tragic sonorities. Prominent musicologists debate whether or not the Pathétique may have bee...

CLASSICPERFORMANCES2 will be BACK! Watch for us!!!! This light-hearted, though not lightweight Symphony by Beethoven deviates from Classical tradition in making the last movement the weightiest of the four. We have the historic French conductor Pierre Monteux conducting the Chicago Symphony in this performance from 1961; just 3 years before his death.
Sir Roger Norrington London Classical Players 1990 Symphony No. 8 in F Major, Op. 93 is a symphony in four movements composed by Ludwig van Beethoven in 1812. Beethoven fondly referred to it as "my little Symphony in F," distinguishing it from his Sixth Symphony, a longer work also in F. The Eighth Symphony is generally light-hearted, though not lightweight, and in many places cheerfully loud, with many accented notes. Various passages in the symphony are heard by some listeners to be musical jokes. As with various other Beethoven works such as the Opus 27 piano sonatas, the symphony deviates from Classical tradition in making the last movement the weightiest of the four. 0:00 Allegro vivace e con brio 8:49 Allegretto scherzando 12:44 Tempo di Menuetto 18:25 Allegro vivace
